About RBA

Building more than structures.

RBA is the build partner homeowners trust to build their dream homes. The company that top architects route their clients to. We do that because pre-construction is where we earn the relationship, construction is where we keep it, and stewardship is where we extend it. The work is shown. The process is shown. The people are shown. Nothing is sold. Just beautiful homes, happy owners & great partnerships.

Our approach

Architect and designer driven. Built on process.

RBA Projects is an architect and designer-driven firm that values collaboration from day one. We build custom homes and cottages across Toronto, Muskoka, and Georgian Bay, with two divisions unified by one process. The work begins in pre-construction, where feasibility, budget, schedule, and trade coordination are aligned before the first drawing goes for permit. By the time construction starts, the build has already been earned.
Explore Our Approach
Alignment
Before a project becomes a project, we sit down with you and your client. Site visits, consultant recommendations, preliminary budgets. The goal is a shared read on whether the build is worth pursuing, and on what terms.
Pre-construction
Pre-construction is where the build is actually earned. We move from a Class D feasibility budget to a Class A budget through value engineering, trade engagement, and schedule architecture. We hold weekly trade reviews so the millworker, the steel fabricator, and the architect are aligned before drawings go for permit. Honest cost feedback comes during design, not after.
Construction
One project manager. One weekly cadence. Actionable meeting minutes for every stakeholder. Open-book cost-plus means architects and clients see every budget, invoice, and decision through the client portal.
Stages most builders skip.
Capture
RBA engages a commercial photographer at our expense to document the finished project. The architect, the designer, and RBA all hold full usage rights to the imagery. The work that earned the build deserves to be seen.
Stewardship
The relationship doesn't end at handoff. We stay involved through the first year and beyond, with seasonal check-ins and continued coordination with your trades. A custom home is a 30-year asset, not a 12-month transaction.

How the Canada–U.S. Trade War Is Affecting Custom Home Building: A Builder’s Perspective from RBA Projects
Tariffs on steel, aluminum, and softwood lumber have raised building costs, but not evenly. Ryan Robinson explains why most custom homes and cottages are seeing a 1 to 3% increase, while commercial projects and large developments absorb double-digit hits, and how early procurement keeps budgets predictable.

FAQ

Everything You Need to Know, Before You Build

We help homeowners, architects, and designers bring their spaces to life with precision and purpose. Here’s what clients often ask us before starting their project with RBA Projects.

How much does it cost to build a custom home in Ontario?

Cost in Ontario is driven by site conditions, design complexity, and finish level, which is why a single price per square foot is usually misleading. We build open-book on a cost-plus basis, so you see the real cost of every trade and material, plus our construction management fee as a stated percentage. The number gets settled during pre-construction, when we price the actual drawings against real trade and supplier quotes rather than a rule of thumb.

Where does RBA build?

We build across two regions from three offices. In the city: Toronto and the GTA, including Etobicoke, North York, Oakville, King City, and Maple, run from our Toronto office on Jutland Road. In cottage country: Muskoka, Georgian Bay, Collingwood, and the Lake Simcoe area, run from our Barrie and Muskoka offices. Each region has its own team, because site logistics on a waterfront build have little in common with a tight urban lot.

Can you work with our architect?

Yes, and it is how most of our work comes to us. We are brought in during design rather than after it, so constructability and cost feedback arrive while changes are still inexpensive to make. The architect keeps standing access to our project management system and attends site meetings throughout. On Cosmo Road, where we owned the land and could have overruled the design team on any cost decision, we brought material options back to the architect instead and landed on an approach that held the design intent.

Are you a licensed Ontario builder?

RBA Projects is a licensed Ontario builder, HCRA licence #62773, and every new home we build is enrolled in the Tarion New Home Warranty program. We carry $5M in third-party liability insurance and provide a two-year warranty on subtrade work. We also stay reachable after handover. The projects that matter most to us are the ones whose owners call us again years later, or send a friend.
